Why Bowen gets it fresh

The Whitsundays on a Melbourne rate

Bowen sits on the coast between Townsville and Mackay, deep into North Queensland. It pays the same flat $30 as a suburb ten minutes from our Thomastown door. For a town this far north the proposition is access rather than speed: named, MSA graded, marble-scored beef from producers who are not sold locally, at a rate that ignores the postcode.

Packed for a six day leg

Everything is cryovac sealed and packed with chilled gel packs into an insulated liner rated to hold safe temperature for 24 hours in transit and a further 12 hours on the doorstep. Between those points the carton stays in the courier's cold chain rather than sitting on a dock. Cryovac then gives up to 10 weeks of refrigerated shelf life from packing while the seal is intact.

Named producers, stated grades

Cape Grim and Bass Strait supply 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef from Tasmania. OBE Organic runs certified organic cattle in the Channel Country. How long does delivery take to Bowen?

Four to six business days after dispatch. It is one of the longest legs we run and the packing is specified for it.

Is there a regional surcharge?

No. Bowen pays the same flat $30 as a Melbourne address. Most chilled meat sellers either refuse North Queensland or surcharge it heavily.

Will it survive six days in the tropics?

The insulated liner and chilled gel packs are rated to hold safe temperature for 24 hours in transit and a further 12 hours after delivery, and the carton stays in the courier's cold chain in between. Leave a shaded drop-off instruction at checkout.

How much should I order at once?

Is the beef delivered frozen?
